Frank Lampard unveiled at Everton

Donny van de Beek is still in Manchester United’s plans after his loan spell at Everton.

The 24-year-old signed for the Toffees until the end of the season, after desperately wanting to leave Old Trafford throughout the January transfer window.

But United were unwilling to let Van de Beek leave permanently, despite having made just four Premier League starts since joining from Ajax in August 2020.

Frank Lampard’s side don’t have a purchase option in the deal, as reported by ESPN.

The Red Devils are still looking for a solution to their midfield problems and whoever replaces caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick this summer may want to use the midfielder’s quality.

Man Utd didn’t want to let Van de Beek leave permanently

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who worked with Van de Beek in Amsterdam, is on United’s shortlist and would likely be keen to get the most out of the Dutchman.

Everton will pay Van de Beek’s full salary and it was new manager Lampard, himself appointed only on deadline day, who convinced him to make the North West switch.

“I had a very positive meeting with the new coach. We have the same ideas about football and he had a lot of influence on my decision,” the Dutch international told his new club’s website.

“I played against him when I was at Ajax, and he was at Chelsea [as manager], so he knows me as a player. He thinks I have qualities that can help the team.

“I can learn a lot from him because he was in a bit of the same position – a midfielder who scored a lot of goals.

“He can help me a lot, so I think I’m in a good place. I want to improve with Everton. There are always things that can be better and I work hard every day to achieve that.”

Van de Beek can only make his debut for the Toffees when Lampard and his team-mates face Newcastle United on Tuesday February 8, due to their cup tie for the FA Cup clash with Brentford on Saturday.

“I want to show my qualities, my strengths, to people in England – but especially to Everton fans,” he continued.

“The most important thing is that we win games and move up the table.

“We have good players in the squad and the talent and ability to move up the league. But for that we have to work hard and I want to be part of that.

“Everton are a great club, with great players, history and incredible fans. The club has everything to rise and be higher in the table.

“I played twice at Goodison last season without fans… it will be nice to see the stadium full.

“It’s difficult, I can’t play on Saturday but I’ll be there to see the game and focus on the next game.

“I’m in good shape. I train a lot for myself and I was training a lot with the United team. I have a few days to train fully and I’m sure I’ll be there. [ready for Newcastle].”
