Chelsea have reached a one-season loan deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, 90min includes, with just a clause on any future permanent transfers to be settled.

The Blues edged out Manchester United in the pursuit of the 26-year-old, who were flattered by Chelsea’s determination to bring him in before the transfer window closed on Tuesday.

Saul has been told he can leave Wanda Metropolitano – the Rojiblancos also allowing him to choose his own destination between the two Premier League giants – and it appears he chose Chelsea.

Sources close to the negotiations said 90min terms for a one-season loan at Stamford Bridge have been agreed, but both sides remain stuck in talks over whether there will be an option or obligation to buy the Spain international at the end of this period.

Chelsea would prefer to have a choice in the matter, while Atleti want to include a purchase obligation for around £ 40million. However, at this point, it’s more likely that West Londoners will get what they want.

Personal conditions are not seen as an issue, as Saul is impressed with the Blues’ efforts to secure a deal before the August 31 deadline.

United remain interested, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted the Red Devils are unlikely to make any further additions following the arrival of winger Jadon Sancho and center-back Raphael Varane.

Saul had wanted to join Barcelona earlier this summer, but talks on a swap deal involving Antoine Griezmann failed and allowed Premier League contenders to step in.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to find a fourth midfielder to use in his regular rotation alongside N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho. .

It looks like Chelsea are ready for a busy few days ahead of the deadline. The purchase of Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde is about to be finalized, while an exit is also on the cards, with Kurt Zouma set to join West Ham in the coming days.
