Manchester United confirm Diogo Dalot loan terms for AC Milan Europa League draw

Diogo Dalot is eligible to play against Manchester United for AC Milan in the Europa League.

United drew Milan in the round of 16 in Friday’s draw and Dalot, 21, is on loan at Milan until the end of the season. Under Dalot’s contract, he is free to play against his parent club in next month’s home and away match.

Dalot has started in seven of Milan’s eight Europa League appearances this season and Milan coach Stefano Pioli has to decide whether the right-back is ready to play against United.

United bought Dalot for £ 19million from Porto in 2018 and the Portuguese are under contract with the club until 2023. United have the option of another year, but Dalot has only made seven starts for United in the last season – once in the Premier League.

When Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams were unavailable for the trip to Crystal Palace last July, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose Timothy Fosu-Mensah over Dalot in his first United appearance in over three years.

Fosu-Mensah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen last month for £ 1.5million, but Dalot’s United future looks bleak and the club are set to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window.

19-year-old right-back Ethan Laird was added to the first-team training squad last year and is currently thriving on loan at MK Dons in League One. Williams provides cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

United have sold Romelu Lukaku, Matteo Darmian, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Chris Smalling to Italian clubs since the start of the 2019 summer transfer window. Andreas Pereira joined Lazio on a one-season loan earlier this season, but did not ‘started only twice for Serie A.

Overall, Dalot has only started 25 times and has made 10 replacement appearances for United.
